The Red Train, nicknamed for the flaming color of its carriages, is a jewel that belongs to the Rhaetian Railway, and since 2008 it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site..
Along a breathtaking route , the highest train in Europe, also known as the Bernina Express, climbs the Alps without the use of a rack railway.
🕢 The departure will be from Milan (at the Lambrate train station) at 07:30. We will go by bus to Valtellina (in Tirano), where we will go to the Rhaetian railway station (which is a small Swiss exclave in Italy).
🚂 At the Tirano station we will take the characteristic red train, with reserved seats 😎
🗻 After the train ride we will arrive in Saint Moritz (in the upper Engadine), one of the most famous winter resorts in the world. There will be enough time to visit the town and the lake.
🫕 Around 15:30 we will take the bus from there that will take us to Chiavenna, a characteristic village in the valley of the same name: we will have time to visit it and for dinner time we will all go together to a typical crotto to eat pizzoccheri, polenta, sciatt and drink wine!
🌆 After dinner the bus will take us back to Milan, arriving late in the evening (around 11:00 pm)
On March 12th we will have dinner together in a crotto, a natural cellar typical of Valchiavenna where traditional dishes are served.
The dinner will be held at the Belvedere crotto, where we can eat: pizzoccheri, gnocchetti di Chiavenna, polenta taragna, mixed piota and prosto biscuits. For those who follow a vegetarian diet, mushrooms and polenta will be offered as a second course. For celiacs and lactose intolerant, a single course dish with bresaola and mushrooms will be offered. The menu also includes dessert and coffee!
Thecost is €35 which includes the entire activity: round trip transportation, dinner and insurance. However, you have to pay a €50 deposit upon registration, which will be returned in full after the trip.
Why do we ask for a €50.00 deposit? The price is €35 because part of the costs are covered by the Politecnico di Milano, which however only provides the money at the end of the activity. This forces us to ask for a deposit that allows us not to have to pay all these costs in advance out of our own pockets (which are high and we are students too 😅). So at the end of the trip, when the Politecnico reimburses the costs, we will return the deposit to each participant.
In any case, you will receive all the information as soon as your registration is completed!
– Initiative realized thanks to the contribution of Politecnico di Milano –
